A low growing, evergreen perennial with silvery leaves and purple flowers. Position: full sun Soil: well-drained, preferably neutral to alkaline soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: July to September Hardiness: fully hardy Perfect for lining a pathway or fronting a border, this evergreen perennial has soft, velvety, aromatic lance-shaped silvery-green leaves that give rise to clusters of lavender-purple fragranced flowers over a long, summer period. Like all Teucriums, the leaves have a spicy aroma when they are brushed past or gently bruised. Makes a super, scented subject for a gravel, scree garden or rockery. Garden care: Grow in a sheltered border with full sun or against a warm, sunny wall in well-drained neutral to alkaline soil. To prolong flowering remove the flower spikes as soon as they start to fade. Clip in early spring and avoid excessive wet ground conditions by improving drainage and incorporating organic matter to the backfill at planting, and the surrounding area. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in spring.
