Young leaves are a delicious bronze red. Position: full sun Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: July to August Hardiness: fully hardy Both the foliage and the flowers make this an interesting and colourful shrub. The foliage emerges each spring with a burnished bronze-red flush, but as the leaves mature they turn bright yellow, then luminous green. In mid- and late summer, clusters of dark pink flowers appear, seemingly backlit by the glowing foliage. Compact and easy to grow, it makes an excellent informal, low hedge or groundcover plant for a sunny well-drained border. Garden care: Deadhead after flowering. In early spring, hard prune the flowered stems to a permanent framework 10-15cm above the ground.
