Salvia Patens Beyond Blue | 9cm Pot

A compact, azure blue flowering herbaceous perennial sage. Position: full light (with shade from hot sun) Soil: well-drained Rate of growth: average Flowering period: July to September Hardiness: frost hardy (will need winter protection) A compact herbaceous gentian sage with spikes of glacial blue flowers producing mounds of deer resistant, aromatic foliage well into autumn. ‘Beyond Blue’ is cool companion for other late-flowering perennials such as Rudbeckia ‘Goldsturm’ and Echinacea ‘White Swan’ or in pots and containers to be brought inside during the winter to a frost-protected, brightly lit spot. Garden care: Plant ‘Beyond Blue’ with a handful of well-rotted compost or manure in the planting hole. Pinch out young growing tips early in the season to encourage the bushy form if growing in containers. To prolong flowering remove the flower spikes as soon as they start to fade. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in spring. Avoid ground conditions where the soil is very cold and wet, and take cuttings towards the end of the summer to insure against winter losses. Wait until late spring to cut the old growth down.
