Position: full sun Soil: moderately fertile, preferably heavy but well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: August to October Hardiness: fully hardy (but short-lived) A superb species of brown-eyed Susan that bears small, reflexed yellow daisies with dark conical centres on wiry stems. Free-flowering, Rudbeckia triloba is an ideal plant for naturalising in a prairie or meadow planting scheme and while short-lived (but self-seeding), this perennial looks wonderful when planted amongst late-season grasses. Garden care: Lift and divide congested colonies in autumn or spring. Support with ring stakes or brushwood well before the flowers appear.
