Position: partial shade Soil: moist, well-drained, humus-rich, acid soil or ericaceous compost Rate of growth: fast-growing Flowering period: May Hardiness: fully hardy This makes a showy addition to the garden in late spring and early summer, when the rich rose-pink flowers appear in loose clusters, opening from darker coloured buds. The evergreen foliage offers form and structure throughout the year, and is particularly interesting in spring when the new growth emerges with a handsome bronze flush. A compact cultivar, it looks just as good in a pot as it does in the border. Garden care: Avoid planting too deeply. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of leaf mould around the base of the plant each spring.
