A repeat-blooming, plum coloured flowering oriental poppy perennial. Position: full sun Soil: moist, well-drained Rate of growth: fast-growing Flowering period: May to July Hardiness: fully hardy Beautiful ruffled, crepe-paper plum coloured flowers with purple eyes and dark splodges at each petal base are produced in late spring to early summer above bristly, grey-green leaves. ‘Manhattan’ looks fabulous planted against blue and purple-flowering plants, such as Nepeta or Agastache. It repeats its blooms later in the year making this flamboyant oriental poppy great value in cottage garden borders. Garden care: When planting ‘Manhattan’ add plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting. Apply mulch to protect roots from cold temperatures. Cut back to ground level after flowering. Once established, lift and divide large clumps in the autumn.
