Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: moist, well-drained, moderately fertile, humus-rich soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: July to August Hardiness: fully hardy Stunning scarlet-red blooms emerge above the darkest bronze foliage in late summer. ‘After Midnight’ from the Black Diamonds series looks fabulous either as a specimen shrub in a pot or container on the terrace or patio, or used to great effect within a ‘hot themed’ planting scheme. Garden care: When planting ‘After Midnight’, add some well-rotted compost or manure and mycorrhizal fungi to the planting hole. Once established, to enhance flowering prune hard in late winter/early spring, prune last year’s growth back to a healthy framework that’s between 30cm and 60cm high.
