Striking new variety with glossy jet black-maroon leaves and pure white flowers. Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: fertile, moist or well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: June to July Hardiness: fully hardy The maroon-black foliage of this mainly evergreen form has a lustrous sheen, and as the season progresses, its colour becomes even more intense. The sprays of creamy white flowers, which appear in early and midsummer, look almost luminous against this dark backdrop, and they offer the perfect contrast. An ideal plant for the front of the border, it also makes a handsome addition to the patio when potted up. Garden care: Lift and divide large clumps in early autumn and replant with the crown just above the surface of the soil. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted organic matter around the crown of the plant in spring.
