Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: poor or moderately fertile, moist, well drained neutral to slightly alkaline soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: June and July Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection) A compact, low-growing, spreading evergreen shrub, ‘Silver Dollar’ has stunning variegated foliage. Grey-green, cream-edged leaves turn vividly burgundy in autumn, in winter the cream margins turn magenta pink. Short, lilac-blue flowers, fading to white appear in early to mid-summer. This hebe makes an attractive low, informal hedge and is a useful plant for urban or coastal gardens, it needs protection from cold, drying winds. Garden care: When planting ‘Silver Dollar’ incorporate some well-rotted compost and mycorrhizal fungi into the planting hole. Requires minimal pruning, remove misplaced or frost-damaged branches in late spring.
