Growing up to 10cm across, they are made up of clusters of tiny yellow/green flowers, which are encased by four petal-like, rich pink bracts. Then in autumn, the curled, mid-green leaves put on another dazzling display when they turn spectacular shades of red and purple before being shed. An attractive specimen tree (or large shrub) for the smaller garden, it will flourish in fertile soils with a neutral to acidic pH. Garden care: Incorporate a quantity of composted or well-rotted leaf mould when planting. Requires minimal pruning
