A herbaceous perennial with cream, red-streaked flowers. Position: full sun Soil: fertile, well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: June to September Hardiness: fully hardy Attractive to bees and butterflies, and prolific over a long summer season, ‘Red Shift’ is an excellent and drought-resistant, colourful choice for patio pots and the cut flower vase. Blooming from midsummer into early fall, producing large 2” diameter, creamy yellow flowers with a deep violet ring around the golden centre, the petals that open later in the season ‘shift’ in colour from solid red to pale yellow with red streaking through the petals. A coreopsis with a fantastic colour effect in the autumn cut flower garden, it’s also excellent towards the middle of a sunny border when mixed with ornamental grasses. Garden care: Protect from frost with horticultural fleece and a thick organic mulch to protect the roots. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering and water well during hot, dry spells. Cut the faded flower-stems back down to ground level in autumn and compost.
