These often put on a long-lasting display, usually hanging onto the bare stems (which can be cut for the vase) long after the last leaf has been shed. An easy and undemanding shrub, it is ideal for adding late interest to the mixed border. Garden care: Incorporate plenty of well-rotted organic matter into the planting hole. Prune back stems in early spring, if necessary, cutting back to a permanent framework.
