Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: moist but well-drained, lime-free soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: June to August Hardiness: fully hardy Forming a low mound of leathery, evergreen foliage, this decorative shrub is topped with clusters of small pink-tinted flowers in summer – and these are followed by bright red berries in the autumn. Use it to provide year-round interest towards the front of the border, or pot it up (using ericaceous compost), and pop it on the patio. Garden care: Protect from cold, drying winds and apply an annual mulch of well-rotted leaf mould around the base of the plant in autumn or spring.
