A tall, branching herbaceous perennial with pale yellow-white flowers in summer. Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: moist, fertile, humus-rich soil Rate of growth: fast Flowering period: May to June Hardiness: fully hardy A creamy-white-flowering form of this popular spring-flowering perennial. Fern-like, finely-toothed silvery grey leaves emerge to support pale cup-shaped flowers with chartreuse centres in late spring and early summer. Preferring a shadier, moist but well-drained border, such as woodland margin, Anemone multifida is a handsome companion for other shade-loving plants such as hostas and ferns. Garden care: Cut back the stalks after the flowers have faded. Tidy up old dead leaves in March. Apply a generous 5-7cm mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in spring. Avoid moving the plant since it resents disturbance. Where necessary lift and divide congested clumps in early spring.
