A summer perennial with purple globe-like flowerheads from strap-shaped leaves . Position: full sun Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: June to August Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection) Evergreen and easy to grow, with an abundance of purple-black buds that open into vivid violet blooms. The long flowering period combined with good rebloom makes it ideal for providing long-lasting colour. Growing faster than other varieties, it will eventually reach around 60cm tall and 45cm wide. A perfect choice for perennial borders, patio pots or mixed containers, it is also noted for its resistance to crown rot (Erwinia). Garden care: Keep well watered during the growing season, applying a balanced liquid fertiliser each month from spring until the plant flowers. Towards the end of September ease back on the watering and feeding of plants in containers to allow the foliage to toughen up. In cold, exposed areas protect the crown of the plant with a deep, dry winter mulch.
