Position: full sun Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained soil (or John Innes no. 3 compost for containers) Rate of growth: average & compact Flowering period: July to September Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection) Impressive globes of light blue, trumpet-shaped flowers, appear on stout, upright stems from July to September. Providing colour and structural interest from mid- to late summer, they’re ideal for a sun-drenched spot in freely draining soil – or for potting up and placing on the patio. Garden care: Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser monthly from spring. Towards the end of September ease back on the watering and feeding of plants in containers to allow the foliage to toughen up. Protect from excessively low temperatures or winter-wet. Divide congested plants in spring, but be aware that they may not flower again the next summer.
