A white-flowering, low, mounding habit herbaceous perennial. Position: full sun Soil: moist, well-drained Rate of growth: fast-growing Flowering period: June to August Hardiness: fully hardy This perennial is named after a fictional rabbit, ‘Peter Cottontail’, but it is mostly unbothered by both deer and rabbits, which is just as well because the ivory white, button-like blooms look great in cut flower vases. The low mound of drought-tolerant, glossy, dark green, narrowly lance-shaped leaves are the perfect foil for the clusters of long flowering heads, superb for adding form and texture in sunny, well-drained borders. Garden care: To avoid the flower stems from flopping over during the summer, support the stems before the blooms appear by using brushwood or bamboo canes and string. Cut down to the ground in autumn. Pull out seedlings as they appear, as they rarely match the parent plant. Lift and divide large clumps in late autumn or early spring. This Achillea is prone to mildew in hot, humid conditions.
